– The latest update from Kirin J Callinan sees the man behind the year’s most fucked-up video working on his debut solo album with The Presets’ Kim Moyes, whose younger brother Kris directed the aforementioned clip for ‘W II W’. “But all work and no play makes Kirin an unhappy shit,” says the press release, so Callinan has booked a trio of gigs before heading to New York to play solo dates alongside Kindness and Blood Orange.

– Having kicked off his post-Middle East solo career with an Adalita team-up, Rohin Jones is hitting the road as R.L. Jones & The Phony Mexican Diner. The latter is “a collection of ramshackle musical friends” including members of Jones’ former band and fellow Townsville troupe Joseph Liddy & The Skeleton Horse. Since sharing the first fruits of next year’s debut album in ‘Everybody Wants to Be Your Friend’, Jones is taking his newfound backing band to Melbourne and Sydney before returning to recording sessions both in Cairns and his current base of Sydney.

Recorded in France with producer Chris Townend (Portishead, Violent Femmes), it’s the follow-up to 2010’s Form. If the title track captured below is any indication, the record balances the trio’s high-impact vigour with more open instrumental space than ever.
