What: Expecting Company? by Henry Wagons
When: Sept. 28 through Spunk/Co-Op
Key notes: First solo recording from the leader of Wagons, after five albums with that band. A seven-song mini-album featuring six duets. Guests include Alison Mosshart (The Kills, The Dead Weather), Robert Forster, Sophia Brous, Canadian songwriter Jenn Grant, The Grates’ Patience Hodgson and Gossling. Closes with what seems to be a sequel to' 'Marylou', off the last Wagons album. “Most of these songs were written in a slightly altered state,” says Wagons, alluding to a post-tour fever and an injured hand due to a exploding light bulb. Rather than stay in bed, he used the sudden voices in his head to write a different kind of song: “I do love a good duet. I particularly love the slightly fractured ones that reveal or give an insight into the complexity of human relationships.” (Watch out, Gotye.) Mostly self-produced in Wagons’ personal studio, albeit with Mosshart in London and Forster in Brisbane. After performing live at Big Sound next month and appearing on the ‘Getting Back to Our Roots’ panel there, Wagons is planning a “grand scale” live show “giving full flight to these new duets.”
From the presser: “Another voice adds an extra element to Wagons’ potent sound, with bubbling sexual tension … there’s melodrama, mirth and menace; gallows humour; misguided lust; longing; and loss.”

Love the concept. Cover looks amazing. I would buy that not just as a 12'' but something bigger, you know, a 20'' LP just to look at.
Wow.
Have we all moved on that far? Shame.
This being released on vinyl?
