Tours In Brief: No Zu, Brous, Feelings, Nikko

– Art-funk ensemble NO ZU will launch their debut album Life (cover art and all) along the East Coast over the next couple months. Out this Friday (Aug. 31), the LP is being billed as a “wonderful meld of musical elements: from slinky funk to house and hi-gloss dub, global music rhythms and textures, to manic No Wave-infused pop sounds.” The band’s live show of “sequins, smoke and heat-beat” will even hit Brisbane for the first time.

Fri, Sept 14 – Liberty Social, Melbourne, VIC
Sat, Sept 29 – GoodGod, Sydney, NSW
Sat, Oct 6 – Format Festival, Adelaide, SA
Sat, Oct 13 – Alhambra Lounge, Brisbane, QLD

– Before jetting off to support Jens Lekman – her duet partner on his new single ‘Erica America’ – on a handful of European tour dates next month, Brous will open for another pop eccentric here at home. She’s supporting London’s Patrick Wolf on four dates, starting next Friday (Sept. 7). The in-demand Sophia Brous is also appearing at this year’s Meredith, on volume two of The Key of Sea and – in another duet – on the upcoming Henry Wagons solo album.

Fri, Sept 7 – Tivoli, Brisbane, QLD
Sat, Sept 8 – Opera House (Studio), Sydney, NSW [sold out]
Sun, Sept 9 – Opera House (Studio), Sydney, NSW
Tue, Sept 11 – Forum II, Melbourne, VIC

– Producer, Berlin denizen and former Philadelphia Grand Jury frontman Simon Berkfinger has reinvented himself as Feelings. Reportedly inspired by Brian Eno’s classic Here Come the Warm Jets, the crispy new single ‘One in a Million’ has everything from deep-fried bass lines to quivering falsetto to singing saw. Berkfinger will road-test that tune and others with the help of Art Vs. Science’s Dan Williams (one-time drummer for PGJ) and Dappled Cities’ Dave Rennick on a quick jaunt. Behold the extremely coherent video interview with him below for more insight.

Wed, Sept 19 – Beach Road Hotel, Bondi, NSW
Thurs, Sept 20 – Lamda Lamda Lamda @ Alhambra Lounge, Brisbane, QLD
Fri, Sept 21 – Goodgod, Sydney, NSW
Sat, Sept 22 – Workers Club, Melbourne, VIC

– “Frighteningly destructive” is what we called Nikko’s On Rotation second album Gold & Red. Now the Brisbane band are taking it on the road for six dates, including an acoustic gig in Melbourne. This might be a good time to pick up that eye-catching double vinyl.

Thurs, Sept 6 – Phoenix, Canberra, ACT
Fri, Sept 7 – Lass O'Gowrie, Newcastle, NSW
Sat, Sept 8 – FBi Social, Sydney, NSW
Thurs, Sept 20 – Empress, Melbourne, VIC [acoustic]
Fri, Sept 21 – Old Bar, Melbourne, VIC
Sat, Sept 22 – Metro, Adelaide, SA
