Talk about a hefty, sweaty pair of shoes to fill: The Temper Trap will headline this year's AFL Grand Final entertainment, a year after Meat Loaf's trainwreck performance.
The Melbourne-formed band will be part of "a new halftime show in the middle of the MCG as well as performing an encore performance with Paul Kelly at an unprecedented fan event," according to the press release. The latter is The Premiership Party, "a free post-match fan event open to the public" at the MCG, with gates reopening at 6pm.
Also confirmed for a new pre-match program are Kelly and the destroyed throat of Tim Rogers.
The Temper Trap's run at Meatloaf's dubious glory comes on the heels of their self-titled second album and touring as part of The Africa Express, a UK tour by African and Western musicians curated by Damon Albarn. Following the Grand Final, they'll do more dates overseas before opening for soulmates Coldplay here in November.
This year's AFL Grand Final is on Saturday, Sept. 29, a day that will live on in infamy.

Alternate headline: Shit sport will have shit halftime act.
As long as Geelong's there, I don't give a shit who does the pre and post match entertainment.
Is it true that the new album is bombing hard everywhere?
Gudinski has good connections with the AFL, obviously.

25 seconds into the first song everyone was asleep, only to be woken again by the 3rd quarter siren. Thus it could be considered successful as it wasn't shit.
Poor Temper Trap... I feel like it wasn't entirely their fault it was a bit dull.
skipped it for a beer run
Didn't even notice it was happening until someone pointed it out.
they sounded fine
Drummers were kinda... er... sparse.
