Forthcoming: The Mark Of Cain

News posted Wednesday, September 5 2012 at 09:00 AM.
Related: The Mark Of Cain, Mark Of Cain.

What: Songs Of The Third And Fifth by The Mark Of Cain

When: November 2 through Feel Presents/Fuse

Key notes: Long-time-coming first album from the flinty veteran Adelaide trio since 2001’s This is This. Includes singles ‘Barkhammer’ and the new ‘Heart of Stone’ (hear below), available on iTunes from Sept. 15. Album recorded in Adelaide over a two-year period with frontman John Scott and Feel Presents’ Tim Pittman producing. Mixed by Forrester Savell (Karnivool, Birds of Tokyo) in Melbourne. According to Scott, ‘Heart of Stone’ “harks back to our earlier days, when we had more melody in our songs … it straddles in effect the earlier sound we had on [1989’s] Battlesick as well as the more riff-focused hard grooves of This is This.” Touring nationally next year, with details surfacing in the coming months at www.tmoc.com.au.

From the presser: “The legend continues ... written by vocalist/guitarist John Scott and drummer John Stanier [Helmet, Battles, Tomahawk], ‘Heart of Stone’ exemplifies the sound of the new album.”

I think the new songs kinda sound like they belong on Battlesick. Looking forward to it though.
