“Beyond just choosing adventurous bands and heeding last year’s lessons to execute the whole thing so much more smoothly, Sugar Mountain got its vibe precisely right.”
This was our take on last year’s Sugar Mountain, which will make its return to Melbourne’s CBD next January. The boutique festival will be held over multiple days and venues, including ACMI, Rooftop Bar, Polyester Records and Melbourne Central, with the main event taking place at The Forum Theatre on January 19.
Curated by To and Fro Family, Two Bright Lakes and Wing & Gill, the bill includes: New York outfit ESG, who came to prominence in the South Bronx in the late 1970s; US underground rapper Action Bronson; Melbourne-born, London-based duo HTRK; a live collaboration between Kirin J Callinan and video director Kris Moyes; Brooklyn-based electronic artist Laurel Halo; Peanut Butter Wolf (aka producer and Stones Throw founder Chris Manuk); and Brooklyn’s Woods.
Tickets for the 2013 Sugar Mountain festival will go on sale at 9am on September 24 via The Forum Box Office, Ticketmaster and Polyester Records.
This year’s festival featured performances by Deerhoof, Tune-Yards, Thee Oh Sees, Shabazz Palaces, John Maus, Sun Araw, Prince Rama, World’s End Press and Lost Animal.
