Int'l Signings: Mammoth Mammoth, Scott & Charlene’s Wedding, UMO

Mammoth Mammoth have stamped a worldwide record deal with Austrian label Napalm. The news comes just months after the rough-riding Melbourne quartet – who have toured nationally with Airbourne, among other exploits – launched their second album, Volume III – Hell’s Likely. Formed in 2007, the band have since landed tracks in commercials and on the soundtrack for Australian horror film The Loved Ones. The current roster of Naplam, meanwhile, includes such formidable names as Monster Magnet and The Sword. With Napalm now on board outside Australia, Mammoth Mammoth are planning a debut European tour in mid-2013. Says A&R rep Sebastian Muench: “Perhaps it was the geographical distance between Australia and Europe that took [us] so long to discover such an amazing band. Mammoth Mammoth’s sound combines everything a rocker, metal-head and stoner’s heart could possibly desire.”

– Six months after seeing re-release on Bedroom Suck, 2010’s Para Vista Social Club by Scott & Charlene’s Wedding is coming out in the UK through London label Critical Heights (Diva, Dead Rat Orchestra). Out Nov. 12 on vinyl and CD with download, the “off-the-cuff collection of real-life woes” will be preceded by the familiar single ‘Footscray Station’ with the B-side ‘Rejected’ – out digitally Oct. 15 and as a 7” in December. The album came in at #20 in our annual Critics Poll.

– Ahead of an Australian visit for Pyramid Rock and Peats Ridge at year’s end, Unknown Mortal Orchestra have signed to Jagjaguwar (Bon Iver, Damien Jurado) in the US and shared a song from their forthcoming second album, due in early 2013. ‘Swim and Sleep (Like a Shark)’ isn’t far removed at all from last year’s self-titled debut, although softer and with straighter drumming. That could be because the first record relied on canned drum breaks that were later recreated live by teenage drummer Julian Erhlich, as Ruban Neilson told us last year, whereas Greg Rogove (Devendra Banhart) is the band’s current drummer. A limited 7” of the new song and the exclusive B-side ‘Waves of Confidence’ will be available only on UMO’s US tour dates this month with Grizzly Bear.
