Punk-minded juggernaut Maggot Fest returns to Melbourne for its third year in November, spanning two days at Collingwood’s Gasometer (Friday Nov. 2 and Saturday Nov. 3) and one in North Melbourne (Sunday Nov. 4) split between the record/comic store Wooly Bully by day and the nearby Town Hall Hotel by night.
The staggering line-up of 30 bands boasts overseas guests Useless Eaters (US, pictured) and The Raw Nerves (NZ) alongside a sea of Australian acts including Ausmuteants, Deaf Wish, Kitchen’s Floor, White Walls, Chook Race, The Stevens, Fighting League and Old Mate. The band hail from all over Australia, from Perth (Helta Skelta) and Brisbane (Psy Ants) to Sydney (Whores) and beyond.
As for the internationals? “Led by the charismatic Seth Sutton, Useless Eaters are American punks. A teenage Sutton started the band in Nashville in 2007 and they have since released three albums and more than a dozen 7”s and EPs on almost as many labels,” says the presser. “Raw Nerves are four dudes from Auckland that channel The Ramones, Shangri-Las, Billy Childish, The Oblivians and Bo Diddley.”
