ARIA Nominations For Gotye, Alpine, Jezabels

All your favourite acts including Justice Crew, Guy Sebastian, LMFAO and The Beards have been nominated for ARIA Awards.

The “also-rans” include rapper 360 (six nominations) and Gotye and The Jezabels, with five nominations each. Alpine will go up against Matt Corby, the all-conquering 360 and San Cisco in the Best Breakthrough category; Dappled Cities will duke it out against The Jezabels and The Bamboos for Best Independent Release; while The Dirty Three, Cold Chisel and Hoodoo Gurus will Greco-Roman wrestle for Best Australian Live Act. DZ Deathrays have scored their first nomination for debut album Bloodstreams in the Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album category. There were no nominations for Henry Wagons.

While Gotye won six awards at the 2011 ARIA’s for his ubiquitous single ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’, his album Making Mirrors only became eligible for contention this year due to its late release date. It has already taken out the Artisan Award for Best Cover for 2012.

The 2012 ARIA Awards will take place on November 29 at Sydney Entertainment Centre in Darling Harbour. Public tickets are $49.95 and go on sale on October 8, 9am.

Bananas in Pyjamas being in contention for Best Children's Album is a disgrace!

A very exciting year! Boy & Bear, Josh Pyke & Temper Trap should all win.

I don't even want to comment on the music categories.

Should Husky be in Adult Contemporary territory?

He has residency. He's been nominated before.

The EG awards seem to be more representative of the local live music scene these days. I wonder if they will comment on ''Sydney's amazing live music scene'' again?

Never knew you could actually BUY a ticket to go to the Arias. I would have done that long ago rather than keep plugging away on my puny musical endeavours, just to say I WENT... Why didn't anyone tell me?

Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift. Tame Impala just released one of the greatest albums since forever and you've booked Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift. Get fucked Dan Rosen.

blacklight  said about 7 months ago:

That Alpine band look like the staff of a wanky cafe in Brunswick.

I think their album was released too late in the year to be eligible. Still, your comments regarding Dan Rosen stand.

Hazard_Man  said about 6 months ago:

What's everyones thoughts on the format this year?

More of a focus on the stage... less close ups of disengaged somebodies at round tables. Good focus on live music, vs unit sales.
