Video Premiere: Boomgates ‘Whispering Or Singing’

Related: Boomgates.
The first-ever film clip from Boomgates underscores everything that’s great about this band: Brendan Huntley’s antsy presence bristling against Steph Hughes’ brighter side of the duet; a ropey feel-good groove that gains some serious traction; a focus on mundane details (“The sign outside your parents’ house said ‘For sale’/Now it's sold”).
As Boomgates run through the ace tune ‘Whispering or Singing’ in the lounge room of the clip’s art director, Sonia Rentsch, that fascination with the mundane is reflected by actress Sue Thomson quietly completing tasks like waking, showering, doing laundry and making a cup of tea (with a little help from a handy flask).
‘Whispering or Singing’ comes from the Melbourne five-piece’s debut album Double Natural, which we called “a record with feeling, one that knows its place and works within it to evoke feelings of nostalgia and familiarity.” The clip was directed by Daniela Velickovic (Jessica Says, Super Wild Horses, Sarah Blasko). Boomgates’ Double Natural tour dates are below. The band will also appear at the next Meredith and Sugar Mountain.
