Vines Frontman Craig Nicholls Arrested

The Vines frontman Craig Nicholls has been arrested and charged with five offences – two counts of domestic assault, stalking or intimidation, resisting arrest, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm – following a violent rampage at his house in Connells Point, Sydney.
Police say the Vines leader punched his mother twice in the head about 12.15pm on Saturday and, according to a statement released by Hurstville police Inspector Robert Duncan, Nicholls “tried to evade police and [a] violent struggle ensued … A police officer suffered grazes, cuts and bruises to both elbows and knees and was treated at St George Hospital.” Police used capsicum spray to subdue him after he resisted arrest. Nicholls parents have taken out an AVO and he is expected to appear before Sutherland Local Court tomorrow (October 17).
The Vines lineup split earlier this year with drummer Hamish Rosser parting ways with Nicholls after 10 years and five albums. Rumours that Rosser and bandmate Ryan Griffiths had been kicked out of The Vines first arose in December last year, when neither member appeared onstage with Nicholls at Homebake. Their departure was unofficially confirmed by Craig Nicholls’ sister Jess in the band’s forums shortly after: “If any of you were at Homebake yesterday, I’m sure you can agree the set was amazing and sounded better than ever. The band has made a creative decision to revert back to a three piece, as they originally started….this is in no way the end of The Vines!!”
Nicholls most recent release is a collaboration with Sydney-based singer Appleonia (aka Jessica Chapnik Kahn) on the song ‘She is The Sun’, which will appear on her upcoming debut album Despite the Gods. Khan says that “The song felt like heartache and it needed an aching voice to complete it … Craig was so perfect for it.”

Huffing nangs no doubt.
You reap what you sow
Are you saying his mother deserved to be punched in the head?
jeez guys mule already said this wasn't news
but what about if it's in the public interest?
Surely M&N is above muckraking of this nature. Leave it to the tabloids and Faster Louder.
I had this great joke prepared about Craig hiring JK to defend him in court and shit but then I read the story and decided it would be a waste of a good joke.
On a somewhat positive note - when writing about Nicholl's career post-Vines, this arrest stops music journo's from using the phrase ''he couldn't get arrested'' since evidently, he can and did.
who's suprised
my seel
Why shouldn't M+N cover the story? It's relevant to a prominent figure in Oz music. It's newsworthy.
Man, it must be serious if Craig's parents take out an AVO against their own son. They could be denying the story. The parents must must know the ramifications of taking out the order.
And don't compare it to JK....he got arrested for 'drunk and disorderly' when he was trying to BREAK UP a barroom fight. He never even punched anybody. He was never even charged with assault.
yeah it's kind of serious when you punch someone in the head. generally speaking.
When I read that I pictured MY mum being hit by him...why would he do that? My Mum is a saint!
Is he going to get free?
Mum didn't get outtathaway!

I don't like the jokes being made in here. He is clearly suffering from mental illness and his family are feeling the implications of this. I imagine it's hugely difficult for all of them at the moment without this having to then be in the news and having people poking fun at them. Maybe I am just overly sensitive but it all seems to be in poor taste.
things around these parts generally are, pops.
(not in support of it either, but, jussaying.)
It should be noted that Craig does have Aspergers. I'm not saying that's an excuse for violence but people with various kinds of autism spectrum disorders are known to sometimes have intense episodes of uncontrollable rage. I'm sure this isn't the first time he's punched family members but they must have reached their limits and be pushed to breaking point to take out an AVO. He sounds really fucking unwell to me.
yeah what pops said
I'm paying for it by having ''Get Free'' stuck in my head.
Fixed.
Fucked up. Poor family and poor guy, clearly fuckin' unstable. Hope everyone is ok. As a side note Hamish Rosser is a cool dude.
Really tragic, and anyone who's making jokes about his obviously serious mental illness, and horrible family situation should be ashamed of themselves.
The way the news is presented needs to be adjusted for the Internet age...there is nothing positive that can come out of something like this being reported, it'll just lead to stupid jokes and bullshit. He has a mental illness, it's tragic and not something to be used to generate hits and content.
It is newsworthy though. Especially since this is a music site.
It's just sad
Matthew newton something something.
i certainly feel more sorry for his family than him, particularly his mother.
I concur.
yup
more sorry for his family? more sorry?
less sorry for him cause he's stuck with a bad head?
I don't know what happened, but if he does have Asperger's or whatever it may be a simple misunderstanding. There's a tendency to repress a lot of shit and then flip-out and tear a hole through things, and the guy's obviously not built for much more than sitting around writing bad poems and not dying or whatever the hell it is he actually does. Guys like that tend to have a lot more going on in their heads than one might think, and are generally just really bad at expressing it.
more sorry for his family? more sorry? less sorry for him cause he's stuck with a bad head?
He punched his own mother in the head. No, surprisingly I don't feel sorry for him for 'being stuck with a bad head'.
M+N should only report on tour announcements
There there Jose....
Seriously? M+N pretty much built on this kind of stuff.
I love the internet, it's turned everyone into a media critic. A shit media critic.
For a minute there I thought I'd logged in to the wrong site.
Same here!
Active threads. Discussion happpening and people talking shit. Vines news. Thought I'd logged into the M+N of 2008.
bear in mind that beating up women is a symptom more commonly associated with Being a Rockstar than Asperger's... don't put this down to Asperger's until a doctor or someone confirms that that's the actual cause.
Suffice it to say that most of you completely missed the point of The Watchmen.
You wanna know what it's like to have Asperger's when you're not famous? It may or may not be a real thing and people use it as a weapon against you in every conflict you ever find yourself in. Now imagine being someone who is a rock star.
Not justifying violence against women (although I sure as fuck know enough women have acted like they had a right to be violent to me and then cry foul when I tried to defend myself), but you really have no idea what you're talking about.
Go back to sleep, Sheep.
I've been violent against men and feel terribly ashamed of my behaviour...sometimes situations when not dealt with compassionately can escalate..I sure as hell don't want to get to that point again.
ass burgers.
hsdfauof is the sad, strange voice of reason inside us all.
Autism is not an acceptable target.
I completely missed the watchmen, let alone their point.
