Belles Will Ring play their last show for an “awfully long time” this weekend in Sydney, but not before unleashing their new (and perhaps final?) clip for ‘The River’.
Featuring archival footage, it was created by a friend of the bands from Oregon in the States, Ian Backer. “He's a very creative guy and we like what he does,” said frontman Liam Judson, “so we just gave him the song with no ideas or directives, aside from sticking with what the song conjures up in his own imagination. If you look close enough, you'll see BWR even make a cameo.”
The track hails from the band’s third album Crystal Theatre, which we described as “an evocative and complicated album, put together by a band who work together as naturally as four limbs on the same beast”. It came in at #20 in last year’s Readers Poll.
The band’s show at Newtown’s The Vanguard tomorrow (October 20) is their last before going on an indefinite break. "It's just a logistical reality at the moment," Judson told M+N this week. "Certainly I'm not against doing another BWR record sometime in the future. We'll just have to see.”
So what will they be doing between drinks?
“We've all got other projects on the boil,” said Judson. “I have been good and busy lately, producing other cool bands. Lauren, Joe and I are close to finishing the second record for our other band Sister Jane. I've got lots of music echoing around in my head at the moment, which I plan to bring to life.”
Belles Will Ring will play Crystal Theatre in full at The Vanguard tomorrow, with supports from Knievel performing their classic album Steep Hill Climb (1998) in full.
