Clip Premiere: Tim Richmond ‘It’s Always’

Reminding us that everything looks more profound in slow motion, the clip for Tim Richmond’s ‘It’s Always’ documents a scene of late-night reflection and jubilation, with friends catching up everywhere and Richmond on stage. It certainly fits the song, which “looks at beating out the dust of one's past with one's dreams of the future” while also recalling the stark likes of the great Young Marble Giants.

Shot in Longplay, the Fitzroy North bar that Richmond co-owns, the clip was written, directed and edited by Nicholas Darling and Daniel Barron, both of whom also star. Look for cameos by Evelyn Morris (Pikelet) and Tim Harvey (Hot Little Hands), among other Melbourne fixtures.

‘It’s Always’ is taken from Richmond’s second album Dot, out now on Lost & Lonesome. The album was made with Nick Huggins producing and Kishore Ryan (Kid Sam, Otouto, Where Were You At Lunch?) drumming. The presser cites The Moles’ Untune the Sky and The Chills’ Kaleidoscope World as suitable bookends. Richmond’s first album came out in 2008 and featured Declan Kelly on drums. Good choice in drummers, eh?

Richmond will launch the album this Sunday (Oct 28) at Northcote Social Club with The Icypoles and Pinto.
