The Mark Of Cain Announce First Tour In Six Years

The Mark of Cain’s first national tour in six years will take place as planned in March.

In addition to their appearance at the Golden Plains Festival in Meredith, Victoria, on March 10, the band will play five shows – in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Coolangatta, Perth and their hometown of Adelaide.

The tour looked to be in doubt due to drummer John Stanier’s touring commitments with the Mike Patton-fronted Tomahawk, who are touring for Soundwave in February/March. Speaking to FasterLouder last week, frontman John Scott said there may come a time when Stanier – who also plays in Battles – could no longer tour with the band.

“John and I have discussed this many times,” Scott said. “He’s said, ‘There may come a time when I can’t support the band in shows’, which would be a great pity. And any time in the past when I’ve said, ‘Shit, I wanna tour and it’s not able to happen’, he’s made sure that he’s available. But it’s always been a friendship where he’s said, ‘You know, there may be a time when I can’t do it.’”

The tour is in support of Songs Of The Third and Fifth, The Mark Of Cain’s fifth studio LP. The album was recorded in Adelaide over a two-year period with frontman John Scott and Feel Presents’ Tim Pittman producing. It’s out tomorrow (November 2). More details here.

Tickets on sale November 12.

The album is out today. It sounds massive. Loving it.

It took me a few reads of the article to work out whether or not it meant that Stanier was going to be on tour with them or not.

zeralus  said about 2 months ago:

went to the melbourne show and it was everything you expect from tmoc. Setlist and execution was tight. The new drummer filled Stanier's shoes nicely.

I'm going to the Brisbane show on Thursday

khanate27  said about 2 months ago:

The Melbourne show was fucking brill. The new drummer is pretty good, won me over when he dropped his stick and managed to catch it and keep playing without missing a beat. Great stuff.

Wicked City were awesome as well. Are there any photos from this gig?

One crit: no TMOC albums on sale. WTF? I really wanted to pick up a copy of the new one... :-/

Punishing set tonight. I'd never seen them before. Good to know that (a lot of) others feel as strongly about 'Point Man' as I do. What a song. Solid 90 minute set. The drummer is fucking great. Only dropped the ball once, during the double-time breakdown in 'Contender', which fucked with John and Kim a little. It's cute how they wear matching shirts.

i'm not super familiar with TMOC, and though i enjoyed last night my friend who is a big fan said that they were a shadow of what they are with stanier and that the new drummer screwed up heaps. i only noticed that one bit in Contender where he lost it, he seemed pretty impressive to me.

black level embassy were amazing, in any case.

I was there too - I loved it, but yeah, noted the drummer fuckup in Contender. Hard to fill Stainer's boots, but I thought he did fine generally.

There was a bit in the middle where it was just a cavalcade of awesome - Retaliate, Contender, Interloper, 1000 yards.

I love the drummer in 1000 yards, with that off kilter (7/8??) beat. I also love how Kim Scott wears his bass strap as a belt and seemingly chalked up his hands before starting. Intimidating dude.

I can't understand this argument. I was watching him pretty much the entire time and he only seemed lost once, as discussed. The kid has a lot of power too, it's not like he was pussyfooting around. Stanier is a beast but I think Eli is a great drummer too.

seahunt  said about 2 months ago:

I actually thought for a second that John Scott had missed a bit and the drummer had compensate on the fly.

I did think at the time that Retaliate may have been a bit slow - but then again, that song was start by John, so if he doesn't get the right tempo at the start, it's naturally going to screw with the tempo.

It turns out John Scott and Ed Keupper were the same person all along.
