Fresh from their set at Splendour in the Grass, Cloud Control will head out on a 14-date Australian tour this August and September.
Speaking with with M+N sister site FasterLouder about the new record, frontman Alister Wright said: “To me it doesn’t really feel like we’ve changed that much, but we’re just letting through a bit more of that [electronic] element,” Wright said. “A song like ‘Gold Canary’ – on our last album – it was pretty hip-hop, it’s based around a drum beat. The only difference is this time we’re letting those influences come to the front a little bit more.”
Wright, however, stopped short of calling the album “dark.” “I think just saying ‘darker’ would be a bit reductive. Without you hearing it, it’s hard to say. There is some stuff on there that’s darker maybe, but it’s a little bit funny as well. I can remember recording it and just having a giggle because I was just like, ‘Oh that’s just really silly.’ It sounds pretty emotional when you hear it so I’m not really sure, but I feel like it’s more playful. It’s maybe more open.”
We got our first taste of the new record when the band released the single ‘Dojo Rising’ last month. Dream Cave will be released on August 19 via Ivy League. It was recorded in a “little studio” in the middle of Kent, England, with UK producer Barny Barnicott (Coldplay, Turin Brakes).
Support on the tour will come from Sydney band Palms. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, July 3.
