Premiere: Immigrant Union ‘Alison’

The last time we premiered something from “sixth-sevenths Australian” troupe Immigrant Union, it was a POV video for a Cheech & Chong cover. This time it’s a vintage-sounding single that taps the journeyman country-rock of The Flying Burrito Brothers, complete with casual psychedelic tinges to certain guitar lines.

‘Alison’ is taken from early 2014’s planned second album Anyway, the follow-up to 2012’s self-titled debut. The band – featuring Brent DeBoer (The Dandy Warhols), Bob Harrow (The Lazy Sons), Courtney Barnett, Bones Sloan, Dave Mudie and Peter Lubulawa – call it “a song about a person trying to get out of a shitty situation ... a dude feeling overwhelmed by the whole deal.”

It’s backed by the spirited thumper of a B-side ‘War is Peace’, also streaming below. Listen out for that “classic C-Barn slide,” as Jen Cloher calls it. Both songs come out next Monday (July 1).
