I have more to say about Faust but what was with the 4:3 perspective? bloody annoying if you ask me.
Th' way I read th' film -- Sokurov was making an ''updated'' version o' Murnau's ''Faust'' hence th' classic aspect ratio instead o' widescreen. It wasn't immediately noticable but a -lot o' it seemed to be re -filmed off a projection o' his original footage as well. Hence th' angled shots where characters appear to be on a plane.
Beautiful looking film ., though Sokurov tends to drown all his films in classical muzak as a crutch to th' image on screen. That said ., ''Faust'' probably suffered from less of that than stuff like ''Father & Son'' which becomes just one lone inexorable elevator ride.

Didn't Neubauten play at the Old Greek Theatre? Did they do a Town Hall gig too?
Nope ., they were th' last band to play th' Old Greek an' FM Einheit ended -up demolishing th' stage with a jackhammer. I really miss my crazy Turkish friend from high school who went to this & MBV despite being th' night before our final school exams.
So when are the MBV side shows gonna be announced? I'll go to that.
Bit bummed about this whole show now -- after some more reading around it seems MBV had tour dates in Japan lined up for February ., and that we might have had some decent club shows if they hadn't been packaged in with this ATP malarky. Oh why ..!

Second this -- now that 1st day tickets are all gone. Not a huge fan of the Westgate Community Centre either [ pro tip: it's a fucking hole ] an' I can't see them getting a good sound from what's basically an oversized tin shed housing an indoor soccer pitch. Kind of disappointing considering how expensive it's going to be for both days as well.
Programming MBV / GY!BE on th' same day was always going to be a bit nuts. I really don't understand why you'd go to all this effort in bringing them out ., an' not have them play in a larger venue w/ better sound so that everybody who wants to see them can go.

By the same token, the last B/W short films that Moodyson made about ~5 years ago are also supposedly not too great.
Keen to see them but they never got a wider -release than film festivals. Not sure what happened, he always seemed like quite a nice intelligent kind of person -- but then emo shorts & nothing.

''A Hole in My Heart'' is great!

Only film I can think off the top o' my head which deals with modern day porn & all the daggy 35 degree bits. Don't be scared to watch it / it's a lot less sensational than you would assume and has this really vibrant cutting and editing that kind o' sum up 90s internet aesthetics and such.

Bigger picture folks? Tyler's a great rapper with little knowledge of life and the faux -tude is wearing thin. Stab me too or whatever but his stuff holds nothing against the surreal mentalism of say an X-Raided who really did kill / rape / fuck shit up -- not good.

Adam Curtis - documentary maker

All his stuff is worth watching -- though good copies are hard to find. What I most enjoy is that Curtis quite clearly and intelligently marks our passage in the 20th century.
Specifically how we've been shaped vis-a-vis the fuck-ups of Sigmund Fraud, his fucking cousin Ed Bernays and how their fucked thinking fucked society and how we relate to each other -- presumably in an effort to get laid [ see: ''hysteria'' ].

Lots of other awe -some material on here including bits of his shorter films an clips, as well as information on his amazing live theatre production which sounds incredible -- but unlikely to make it out here.
All Watched Over By Machines of Loving Grace Ep.1 http://j.mp/jPbM3e
Some kinda high quality 720p ''preview'' version [ 700MB ]. Well at last until SBS brings it out to Australian television.
