You should be able to pick one up from Japan via ebay for under that. Doesn't look like there's many up at the moment, but if you keep an eye open you should be able to get one for around $700-800 +$150 or so for postage.

I had the same spitting out discs problem a couple of years ago. Used one of those drive cleaning discs with the little brushes on the bottom and it fixed it... unless that's what you meant by ''cleaning the disc slot''.
