Hello,
As the title states I am looking to start a band, of a heavy, slow, ethereal variety. Not heavy all the time but heavy in terms of atmosphere. I'd like to find like minded people who can make composing and improvising music as a group an enjoyable and organic process.
I play guitar and some keys also. But mainly guitar. I'd like to meet anyone who is interested in making this kind of music, is proficient on their instrument, and has good gear. I'm really interested in unorthodox playing techniques as well so if you're the sort of person who would consider using a bow on your bass, or not play the drums only with sticks, then I'd be very interested in playing with you. There's obviously nothing wrong with playing your instrument conventionally but I'd like to be a band that explores interesting and different sounds. I like awesome riffs too but I think sounds and noises (whether they be tonal or atonal) occupy an important part in the kind of music I want to make.
I'm hesitant to talk about ''influences'' because I don't want to start a glorified cover band, but here are a few things that have been inspiring me lately (in no particular order). I don't necessarily want to sound like these bands.
Om Sunn o))) Popol Vuh (and various other 1970s German groups) Swans Nadja Burzum (particularly Filosofem, and also some of the electronic stuff) Grails (have only heard one album but it's great, the drummer is the new guy for Om) Ozzy-era Black Sabbath (especially some of the interludes) Late 60s/early 70s psych prog such as King Crimson and Jethro Tull (I really like the way they work in some old English style folksy sections, it would be cool to do that in a more doomy/stoner way, like Om has done with vaguely Middle Eastern scales, sounds and imagery).
By the way, I'm located in the Preston area. Ideally you're located in the inner north... I have room to jam in my living room, depending on the time and day.
Anyhow, be sure to post or PM me if you're interested.
Leslie 700 rotating speaker + preamp $650 MELB
Discussion I Made about 1 year ago
Single rotor, two speed Leslie cabinet with woodgrain finish. I think it's about 70 watts RMS, so enough to keep up with low to mid volume rehearsals. Comes with Leslie cable, Trek UC-1A combo preamp and Speakeasy Music cable crossover attachment.
The preamp alone cost over $500 new, and is in excellent condition. Unless you happen to have one of the very small percentage of organs that work directly with a Leslie (and even then there are completely different, incompatible varieties), you need some form of preamp unit to use any unmodded Leslie (it preamps the instrument signal, and provides mains power), except for the rare model 16. This one works with all of them, and allows you to use more or less any instrument with a 1/4'' instrument jack. Having said that, I've found that this particular Leslie sounds best with sounds like organs and string synths, pads etc. with a slower, rounder attack.
The Leslie is in working condition, although it could use a service. Currently it is stuck at maximum volume (you have to change this on the back with a screwdriver, which doesn't seem to work anymore. I think maybe the slot on the screw has been worn or something). You can still turn down the volume on the preamp and/or your instrument, but the noise floor is pretty high. Cosmetically speaking, the cabinet is somewhat worn, with some scratches on the top and scuffs along the bottom. These occurred in moving it between rehearsals. I can assure you it hasn't been abused.
Reasonable offers considered!
