Imagine if Iran was able to spend a few billion dollars each year to build up Hamas' weaponry, and nobody did anything to stop them. Imagine Hamas builds up it's military to a point where it can impose a blockade on Israel's coast and reach agreements with Jordan, Lebanon and Egypt to close their border crossings. Then imagine that they bomb all Israel's airports and runways so no flights are possible either. Then they put up walls around all the towns and cities of Israel and anyone who approchaes the wall is shot. Then imagine Hamas assasinates the head of the Israeli armed forces while he is preparing the draft for a long term truce to end the blockade. And then various ''world leaders'' could talk about Hamas' right to self defence.

I think this whole episode was orchestrated to prevent Palestine getting non-member state status in the UN. Israel will have demanded something from the US in return for reaching a truce. I bet the price was that the US has make sure other countries vote against accepting Palestine at the UN.
