Update after the whisky night (the e in the heading of this thread offends me)
Auchentoshan Valinch was a very firey 57% but triple distilled so it lacked some of the complexity of a usual single malt. Also, being lowland it was quite light and peppery compared to my usual favorites. Was quite worth a try, but at the price i wouldn't buy a bottle myself.
Jura Origin. This one was probably the softest of the 4 malts. Honey, citrus, floral. Tasted young. Very light, but still smooth. Probably a good starter malt for some. Hard to really go into it that much as the other malts kinda wiped it from my mind.
Laphroaig Triple Wood. Smoke, peat, peat smoke and smokey peat. Probably not as rounded as the Quarter Cask, but still a really good heartwarming campfire in a bottle experience. Iodine traces came through strongly, but lacks the syrupy mouthfeel that Lagavulin brings. A good medicinal dram on a cold night.
Glenlivet 18. Top class. Nothing crazy like your Islay malts. Just pure caramel, richness. Best mouthfeel of the night. Thick and soft. So mellow, yet still complex. Definitely worth the $115 a bottle. Its been a while but i'd put it above the Talisker 18 and maybe on par with the Glenfiddich 18. Would earn a spot in our Whisky All-Stars tasting in October.
On the Glenfiddich 18, we were tempted to add a dram to some pure organic maple syrup and have with buttermilk pancakes and streaky bacon. Sacrilicious.
For the Whisky All-Stars, 4 of the following 6 are likely to be compared.
Lagavulin 16 Caol Isla (Quarter Cask) Aberlour a'bunadh Glenfiddich 18 Glenlivet 18 Macallan 18

Just spent $400 on whisky for a whisky night i'm running at work on Friday. Every 6 months or so we all chip in and share 4 x $100 bottles of decent malt.
Jura Origins, Auchetoshan Valinch, Glenlivet 18yo and Laphroaig Triple Wood.
I'm actually going to take the Jura back as i've not got decent reviews of it, so might go for an an cnoc instead.
Past tipples have included:
Glenfiddich 15 and 18 Lagavulin 16 Talisker 10 and 18 Macallan 18 Aberlour A'bunadh (my favorite) Laphroaig Quarter Cask Tobermory 15 Loch Lomand 21 Glenfarclas 15 Auchentoshan Three Wood The Glenrothes Oban 14 and a few others i can't remember (or don't have the bottles for behind me)
Nothing beats the A'bunadh though. Limited release: ''rumour has it that when a second pair of stills were put in in 1975, a time capsule was discovered behind the name plate, containing an 1898 newspaper about the distillery fire wrapped around an 1898 bottle of Aberlour. The workmen who discovered the bottle polished off four fifths of the bottle during their lunch break, but the remains of the bottle went off to the laboratories in Keith, and were analysed. A'bunadh is an attempt to recreate this single malt.''

Yeah, it sucked to have that guy play for us. Never provided a single moment of entertainment, or helped us win a trophy, or won a personal accolade.
And we really did a poor job of replacing him.
What's the strategy for heart to make up for the lost revenue with only having one derby as a home game? Serious q. Are the players sales covering this, or is there a membership boost?

I've not had a 442 account ever. That place has the worst comments section since the herald sun added one to its site.
TWG is almost as bad.
And finals don't count if you don't win em. Yeah derby win would be nice, but i'll take the atmosphere at our games, plus our successful history over struggling and trying to survive by being a feeder club.
