Adelaide Premier Offers Jade Monkey A Lifeline
Comment I Made about 1 year ago
If you find Twin St, there is no difficulty locating the venue. The thing about this laneway culture statement is that the potential for this has been there for 10 years and had an even stronger chance with the opening of Two Ships. Before Two Ships, The Jade Monkey had a 2nd hand furniture shop called Old Hat downstairs. There's a clothing store next door called Irving Baby that's in the building where the hotel will be built...but there are other shopfronts that could have been utilised to create a good laneway culture earlier. It runs off Rundle Mall and includes an entry to a shopping arcade. I don't understand why this is being bandied about now that The Jade is due to close. This could have been fostered earlier...not these pathetic attempts at replicating (and failing abysmally) Melbourne's cafe laneway culture in Gawler Place etc by simply sticking a coffee stand and a couple of tables on a couple of carpark spaces.
Jade Monkey Update: Owners ‘Hope To Relocate’

The change of ownership for the Crown & Sceptre was huge in the early 2000s. Indie rock bands started playing at enigma instead, which never worked for them. Then the Jade Monkey came along and provided a great substitute for the C&S. The bands that play there has changed in the last few years - a lot of heavier acts there now. It has been a huge part of my life over the past 10 years in so many different ways - watching, playing, booking and working. I will miss it if/when it goes, but look forward to seeing what Zac, Naomi and Luke come up with next.

I had a Fender Rumble 100 (1x15) when I first started playing bass. I tolerated it for the first year, but it really didn't have the bottom end I wanted. But it wasn't very heavy and was on 4 wheels, which was good. I ended up getting an Ampeg 4x10, which I love for the sound, but cost heaps more and is a total bitch to move.

I do like Cormac McCarthy, but The Sunset Limited was underwhelming for me.

Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman - Haruki Murakami
Didn't really enjoy this. Too many repetitive themes from within this collection of short stories and his other novels.

Also, I don't recommend going into the shop at the Big Koala...it is best admired from the car at 100km/h.
Melbourne Artist To Work With Eno

I think he has always had pressers like that, but he was always really lovely when I would speak to him at Big Star, years ago. He's achieved some pretty amazing things since then.
