The AMP 2009: A Riposte

@dombro's far from the least known name on the list, an odd panel for one aiming to cover the country's music scene.
got a blog?

In all fairness, it should be pointed out that despite the lack of playlisting it's not unusual to hear the same song played a couple of times a day on PBS and RRR
actually think it goes the other way. playlisting restricts the amount that very hyped records can be played, meaning you don't get 24 hours of sufjan stevens, which i for one am very thankful for.

i'm a presenter on fbi...
it's easy to turn a big thing like a radio station into a cliche - we can't hold all that much info in our working memories, so we reduce it down to managable generalisations.
there are bits of fbi that get on my nerves - same with radio national, same with 2ser and rrr and pbs and 2xx and every other station.
but look at the calibre of people and the kind of music being presented on the station - paul gough/pimmon, peter hollo, eliza sarlos, lexi, blake, naked city crew, tyson, ro sham bo, dave regos, lorna, stu buchanan, garage pressure. these people make great radio, and most are really involved in making things happen about town as well.
i present the art/ideas show, canvas, not playlisted, and used to do the music show, join the dots (also unplaylisted) - but i've covered plenty of playlisted shows, and like lee tran said, have always found it great for discovering new stuff.
the playlist isn't created by some marketing team. dan zilber sets aside an entire day every week to listen to everything that comes through the station. he's open to suggestions from presenters, and although he misses some things, he also picks up some amazing stuff that i wouldn't hear otherwise.
ps dual plover, your label gets stacks of plays on the station.
