Dexter

tabula rasa  said about 6 years ago  or at  5:01PM on Saturday, December 30 2006 in television

Are any of you guys watching Dexter? It's quite entertaining, in a strange sort of way.

Dexter Morgan

Quick summary: based on the book Darkly Dreaming Dexter it stars Michael C. Hall (Six Feet Under) as a forensic pathologist working for the police and specialising in blood. Dexter, appearing normal to everyone else, is actually a sociopath who deals with those who've escaped justice in his own special way.

The first episode starts off ok, but the series just gets better from there. Heaps of black humour and wry commentary. It's a good psychological drama with a major story arc running through it.

From Episode 2 they use a great title sequence that shows Dexter making breakfast & getting ready in the morning. For something with no actual violence, it has some of the most violent imagery I've seen. Suits the show perfectly. Youtube video here (but it loses something at the normal youtube screen size).

what is "black humour" exactly?

tabula rasa  said about 6 years ago:

& here's the picture missing from above:

tabula rasa  said about 6 years ago:

I'd say it's humour that makes light of death and other serious matters, with the humour made by the person affected. It's a dry, dark humour.

ah, I thought this was about this guy

or this guy

tabula rasa  said about 6 years ago:

lol !

It could've been Dexter (ex) from The Avalanches.

Dexter the robot as a serial killer. Now I'd watch that show!

Yeah, watched the whole series, and thought it was brilliant...good to see a few regulars from Oz in it too. They're going to shoot another series based on the second book too, and I think that a third book is scheduled for release next year.

tabula rasa  said about 6 years ago:

Good to hear re second series. I think I might pick up the books as I did enjoy the first series.

Lane  said about 6 years ago:

this is really, really good.

bees're bees  said about 6 years ago:

So..... how do you watch it?

Lane  said about 6 years ago:

your friend you dated briefly in high school tracks you down on the internet after ten years of not seeing you, then they download it off the internet and burn it to a cd and post it to you just for the hell of it, because they are nice

bees're bees  said about 6 years ago:

Cuuuuute!!!

Lane  said about 6 years ago:

the sound design in dexter is great. most of the normal every day sound effects (voices excluded) are unusually low in volume. just background texture. enhances his distance from the every day world. but in the memories and the killing; the things which shape his life, things are nice and defined, sharp, crystal clear, heightened in the way the moments in our life that shape us linger.

Bumping this thread for people who need some good winter torrents to warm their hearts. Dexter is brilliant.

ProDelgado  said about 5 years ago:

Read both books, and I think that the third one is actually out now, or due out now...fuck Harry Potter...

tabula rasa  said about 5 years ago:

The first book is floating around at Borders & the like as a $10 promotional edition to get people into the series (or it was 2 months ago).

ProDelgado  said about 5 years ago:

Yup, they did something similar here in the UK, think it was £3.99 and had a sticker that said you could return it and get your money back if you didn't enjoy it...

tabula rasa  said about 5 years ago:

Episodes 1 & 2 of Dexter Season 2 are available for torrenting over on eztvefnet.org.

zadie  said about 5 years ago:

ORSUM

I'm surprised how few people are hearting dexter the crushable murderer.

where any time it wasn't him or Dexter it was absolute garbage.

That's still generally the case, but we put up with it cos it's still worth it.

whatwhat  said about 7 months ago:

Show has got so shit.

moribunderast  said about 7 months ago:

This season's a bit better, I reckon. Though after the abomination that was season 6, that's not saying much. It's a guilty pleasure for me, these days.

Season 6 did, however, give us the extremely untalented son of Tom Hanks - and this golden line.

Ghostface  said about 7 months ago:

How does Deb think she's going to fix Dexter? And what if the Miami PD finds out? They'll have her balls

moribunderast  said about 7 months ago:

Yeah, LaGuerta's gonna be all up in Deb's (and Dexter's) shit if her private investigation leads anywhere.

Ghostface  said about 7 months ago:

Yeah man, LaGuerta's all over it. She knew from the start that Doakes wasn't a serial killer.

Predictions on the show's end? Somebody's gonna be gunned down. Deb? Dex?

moribunderast  said about 7 months ago:

Is this the last season or is there another after? I know there is an end in sight...

Show'll probably end with Dexter dying or being incarcerated. Then Deb has to look after Harrison and the last scene is him looking with evil intent at a dog and Deb is all ''Aw no, again!'' Cut to black - music ''Dee-nee, Dee-nee'' etc.

Ghostface  said about 7 months ago:

This is the last season

tihstar  said about 7 months ago:

Nah, it's the second last. They announced it would end at the conclusion of the 7th series which will be the next one by my count. Not sure how they'll stretch it to a final one at this stage but expect they might break format and have dexter on the run for most of it.

Cooperative Music  said about 5 months ago:

Anyone still watching this?
Season 7 finale was pretty great. Very dark.
Sets it up beautifully for the final season.

klaximopark  said about 5 months ago:

Yes! Avoiding spoilers, I found the final shipping container scene quite unrealistic (within the reality of the show), I think they could gave gone a slightly different way and still set up the final season. But yeah, it's quality disposable entertainment. Love it.

LoadMyRig  said about 5 months ago:

between this finale and the homeland one, my eyeballs nearly rolled out of their sockets.

how are they going to explain that thing that they did? deb's revolver was used. surely ballistics are gonna be all over that....

Cooperative Music  said about 5 months ago:

Yeah, it was a bit silly.
But it definitely succeeded in leaving us with a year of wondering where they fuck they take it from here.

Cooperative Music  said about 5 months ago:

Were the Doakes flashbacks actually from an earlier series, or were they new?
I couldn't remember.
I didn't recall Doakes being quite such an awful actor.

klaximopark  said about 5 months ago:

That's it. It's SPOILERS time. Surely anyone who hasn't seen it will avoid this thread anyway.

Get rid of LaGuerta's body - she did the deed and skipped town. Case closed.

And the Doakes stuff was new. But I loved it! Plenty of lols.

sting-bono  said about 5 months ago:

Doakes was such an 'O'Doyle Rules!' jerk. That was a good finale, apparently next season will be the last so the writers have said that seasons 7 and 8 are all part of the same wrapping up story arc. Hope he escapes to Argentina with the hot psycho bitch.

klaximopark  said about 5 months ago:

Hot psycho btich and Deb get it on, Dex bones Deb, all three move to Argentina.

Cooperative Music  said about 5 months ago:

Hot psycho bitch is an Aussie.
Don't know if that was common knowledge. I just discovered that yesterday.

whatwhat  said about 5 months ago:

Season got better with the proper bad guy in it, then got really shit once he get killed off.

I cant make up my which was more jaw-punchingly stupid - this series or the most recent sons of anarchy. Both shows certainly are pale imitations of theirnf

whatwhat  said about 5 months ago:

Former selves.
