http://www.etax.com.au ?
yep, that's the one. Got my return in 3 working days.
have you gotta give them money though?
Etax does not currently support macintosh computers. Fucking Fuckers
typical....
i'm going to go to an accountant. they were going to give me 2c last year. fuck that shit - i want moula.
I loved it when I was working with an accountant and he'd do it for free and do everything possible to get the biggest return possible.
yup, i need one of them.
It doesn't matter who does it, you either get or owe money. All an accountant can do is explain if you are eligable for a deduction you don't know about. Most jobs, they're easy enough to work out yourself.
Did my own, got 2K.
I've used the ato's etax application for 3 or 4 years with no trouble.

I'm on windows, but from the site:
i don't know shit about shit when it comes to tax, and i have all sorts of superannuation crap that i have to process and stuff.
i'd rather go and have someone do it for me.
If you do (say, pay $90 for ITP or whoever) you do get to put that in as a deduction the following year.
The same accountant would now charge me $150 for a basic return.
I'm going e-tax.
I always used to do my own tax. Usign Etax I worked out that I'd have to pay a $500 tax bill, so I went to an accountant and they got it down to $200.
ando- why did you owe money?
mmm, i've always had my uncle vinnie, who's an accountant do it but now he's decided to have a career change, i must do it myself.
not looking forward to it at all.
I'm gonna give etax a go. Can you download the calculator or do you need to remain online?
Yep, you can download it, do it all offline and save it, but you have to be online to submit it.
Doesnt really work on MACs though it downloads .exe shite.
If you do (say, pay $90 for ITP or whoever) you do get to put that in as a deduction the following year.
exactly.
virtual PC 7, Clevey.

I got hit with a 3.5K bill this year. nasty.
I got about $500 back. Was banking on way more than that. Drag. Oh well.
I decided my return was not good enough so I asked H&R block not submit it, then I switched accountants...
So I did it myself this year the old-fashioned way with the tax pack from a newsagent... they called me to request evidence of an employment termination payment or some such thing, I didn't know what they were on about (nor could I understand the guy calling me, his accent was that heavy) so I spoke to someone else and it turns out they had entered my info wrong. Someone manually enters in everything you put on your form, and they do make mistakes... so I think I'll be doing it electronically myself in future!
Anyway, once I sorted that little issue out they paid me in about 6 working days. Got $3000+ back - yippee! Straight into the travel fund.
I got about $270 back, Im on a super small wage (thankyou Fairfax) and because I dont have a health fund thing....Do you guys have health funds? Do you really get alot back in your TAX? I dont understand it all.
Eple, I have health insurance but because I get the tax deducted with my monthly payment (meaning that I pay less every month) I didn't get anything back on that.
Check with your healthcare provider, sounds like you might be doing the same thing as me. It's an attractive option because it means that you pay less on your healthfund payments but you don't get anything back in tax.
oh wait, that made no sense. I thought you DID have a healthfund - my bad. sorry. ignore that.
I know I probably should have it, but I just dont really have the cash to pay for it. Im already kind of struggling, well look strugglings not the word - I bo probably 2-3 CDs a month + gigs + tshirts but I also live by myself. Im not complaining as thats how I like it, but I thought with Health insurance you could claim it back on Tax.
I do however recommend putting an extra few dollars in with Super - so you can live it up when your're 85!
Thanks woolfat.
buy* - I mean..
I really need to look into doing that, but definitely not right now. I'm kinda up there with you on that struggling bit.
yeah, I get paid every 2 weeks and come that weekend, I probably have $200 until the following pay day! After all the bills and car insurance and food....
my reason for missing so many gigs recently....
find a person that if you combined your incomes equalled to less than $160,000. say they are your spouse. you don't have to pay the surcharge..
the MLS penalises single people. I don't know why but it does..
i need to find a husband.
I get paid monthly it's a nightmare.
i used to get paid monthly, the first 2 weeks its like heaven, then the final 2 weeks you live like a pauper....
Eple, if you are on a small income as suggested, you should NOT be paying the Medicare Levy Surcharge even if you don't have private health insurance. The threshold for MLS is $77,000 for singles so if you earn less than this you shouldn't be paying it and should check that you haven't ticked a wrong box.
Its easy to make this mistake on eTax if you skip to the end.
Really, I earn less that $77,000! I've already sent my etax off - thankyou ASaltySalute I will look into this!
I know I should probably have health insuance but until I get a payrise its really at the bottom of my list.
Hmm, maybe I should double check mine.
I'm only getting 1000+ back because one of my employers ever so kindly was taxing me in the wrong income bracket. I was wondering why I was so poor (even though I earn less than 45K - I was really struggling.) It all made sense later.
I get taxed in some kind of retarded fashion. Roughly a 15k gross due to being away for a while last financial year. Getting a return of almost 4k.
That's a real money saver right there.
This is what happened to me. I only worked half of the last financial year as I was off traveling, so I got a nice return this year (which will fund more traveling! Yay!)
I have been screwed in the past though, and owed them money. So I'm going to enjoy this one!
fuck you amended tax return from 2 years ago where I forgot to declare my interest and now I have to give the ato $180. :(
