New Noise: Liars, King Gizzard, Damn Terran, Jonathan Boulet
After a brief hiatus, our regular round-up of the best new music on the internet returns with album teasers from Liars, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Damn Terran and Jonathan Boulet.
? New York-based Liars (featuring Melbourne’s own Angus Andrew) show us their soft side with the first cut to emerge from tongue-twisting sixth album WIXIW*. ?No.1 Against The Rush? somehow lives up to the band’s description of the album as ?simultaneously the most accessible and most challenging release? to date. The follow-up to 2010?s *Sisterworld, it was self-produced by the band with additional production from Daniel Miller.
? Victorian seven-piece King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard have begun work on their debut album in the same Melbourne warehouse that birthed last year’s [Willoughby’s Beach](/releases/2000973) EP. ?Bloody Ripper? is the first to emerge from these sessions, and its an all-out garage-pop gorefest (?All I want to do/Is sink my teeth into you?) featuring a verse sounding like, of all things, Kings of Leon’s ?The Bucket?, and an outro that simply implodes in on itself. It’s accompanied by a B-side featuring narration by Broderick Smith of recently defunct country legends [The Dingoes](/articles/4228958). Tour dates [here](/news/4453438).
? To tide us over until their full-length debut drops late this year, Melbourne’s Damn Terran have released a shouty new 7? single, ?Rebels?, which conjures the intensity of early Magic Dirt. Its B-side, the aptly titled ?Wasting Time?, is 56 seconds long. Make of that what you will. The trio are playing shows in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane this month. Dates [here](/news/4438559).
? More tribal hipster chant music from the 21-year-old Sydney-sider who invented the genre. ?Trace? is the first taste of Jonathan Boulet?s second album We Keep The Beat, Found The Sound, See The Need, Start The Heart (yes, that’s the real title). The follow-up to 2010?s self-titled debut, it’ll be out through Modular in June.
