Forthcoming: Glenn Richards
News posted Monday, October 4 2010 at 02:00 PM.
Related: Augie March, Glenn Richards.

What: Glimjack by Glenn Richards.
When: October 29 through Sony Music.
Key notes: Debut solo album for Richards following his decision to put Augie March on ice. Recorded in a warehouse “the size of a skating rink” in Fairfield, Melbourne, with guest musicians including his brother Chris, Ben Bourke (Ned Collette + Wirewalker) and The Drones’ Mike Noga and Dan Luscombe. Vocals recorded with Robin Mai at Woodstock and Sing Sing studios in Melbourne. Mixed in New York with Victor Van Vugt during a “heatwave that had Satan swimming in the dumpster”.
From the presser: “It's rough and ready but not without ambition and some finesse. Like most of the Augie stuff it ain't hip, but I hope it's got some legs to out-stroll the sprinting ninnies on Cool Street.” – Glenn Richards.

Nervously excited for this. Love the first two Augie records, but Torpor isn't hitting me.
I used to call him Augie March's singer, then he said he was Glenn Richards so I’ll just call him Augie March's singer.
Every time someone mentions this album to me I think they're saying ''Glen Ridge''.
True story.
torper is shit. I hope he's got a song. cos I like augie. always did.
through Sony Music.
You're kidding, right? I thought there was serious bad blood there.
I don't know about that logo. Looks like something for a Grinch movie sequel.
it's meant to be frigging art deco. it's just wrong. sorry. art deco was last year
he'll have a song but. that song is just filler for the promo. he's a good artist.
shit art director but..but, he'll have a song. have faith.
based on the sampler that's been circulating, there ain't much difference btw this and a new augie album.
cautiously optimistic about this.
He should've done a Gareth Liddiard and released an album of solo stuff. Bottle Baby and The Slant are two of the best songs on the last two albums and prove that he can still release beautiful stuff.
but perhaps like the liddiard those moments of beauty would have been lost amidst the bush ballads and acoustic meanderings?
dude is a talented songwriter for sure.
I guess so. But Richards doesn't write 8-16min long stories with no hook.
I guess i'm just scared it'll be arranged like the last two albums, which was pretty generic. I want him to experiment like he did with Strange Bird.
you am i, liddiard, glenn richards, coolies, al, heirs, it's a big time for releases....
Augie had one more album due on their contract. This album fulfils that.
I think I got the best one. out of liddiard and richards and me
hard to believe. even for me. being a understated man. but I got em now. it's done/
hehe
I'm getting a coffee. like to meet some contemporary's one day. that would be nice.
Glen Ridge. Makes me think of kids tv, Saturday morning on Channel 6.
tigers: righto.
Don't mind Torpor & Spleen, I've got a soft spot for anything Richards.
Hope the production is better on the other tracks, though - this has the trademark Augie muddiness :(
another new song- Long Pigs
I'm a sucker for handclaps, so I like this. Wasn't too keen on Torpor; lets hope every other song has handclaps..!
whoa, that brings back memories.
Quite like the new song. I like learning about new words and what they mean.

Sometimes I go to gigs just to hear the hand slapping after each song. What joy it brings.
Any reports on the album as a whole? Believe tis released today.
yeah, it's okay. more esoteric than the last augie album, and there's a couple of absolutely stonkingly good tunes.
I was left completely underwhelmed by last Augie album. I know they had their problems with the producer. Hoping this is a return to form of sorts.
