Related: Temper Trap.
Melbourne’s world conquering kings of buzz Temper Trap have released the first taste of their protracted self-titled second album, the follow-up to 2009’s Conditions.
While the album’s first single ‘Need Your Love’ isn't due until the end of the month, the band have released a teaser called ‘Rabbit Hole’, a moody slow-burner that builds to a towering Bono-approved™ crescendo.
The album is the band’s first as a five-piece, following the permanent addition of Joseph Greer on keyboard/guitar. Out through Liberation Music on May 18, it’ll feature 12 new songs recorded in Los Angeles (where else?) with producer Tony Hoffer (Beck, M83, Phoenix).

You can hear the money.
I love the video. Song's ok too.
Sponsored by Ray-Bans and a company that sells moustaches.
a year and a half between albums is 'protracted'?
Sponsored by Ray-Bans and a company that sells moustaches. - Lolz!
June 2009 to May 2012. Nearly 3!
I don't mind it. But then I don't mind the Jezabels album so my opinion is (AMP) worthless.
Who's the bald cunt? Where's the edgy skater cunt? Actually, who are any of these arseholes?
It's funny that any band that starts turning successful gets that 'we're in a big band' look. Look at the Vines, Jet any of those sad cunts. It's this Designer Boho fucking mess. Corny.
Fixed.
And before I waste my time playing the video, am I right in assuming this is another forgettable post-Coldplay/Killers number?
The video clip is a bit mnml innit? The song is a bit borzo and a bit too Coldplay 4 me.
ouch: And that, rather than its terrible lyrics or derivative sound or rotten song about the riots, might be The Temper Trap's downfall: for all their grandstanding ambition, they're too easy to ignore.
The 'bald cunt' is Joe (really nice bloke), who has been in the band as a guitarist since before the first album, but didn't help write that album. It seems they've finally anointed him as an official member.
That Guardian review would never happen in Australia, because of parochialism.
It's worthy of a story on Mess and Noise. I predict 200 posts an hour
The Vine's 350 word review. Amazing.
It's like shooting fish in a barrel analysing most lyrics from Australian pop bands, but nevertheless i enjoyed the read. I was actually thinking last night, if JJJ only played music based on it's lyrical merit then they wouldn't have a radio station. The lyrics seem to just be a decoration in most songs you hear in mainstream music*, which is unfortunate as that is the main thing journalist folk target when they review an album. And yeah i agree parochialism does tend to limit media's cultural coverage, though in london music has always had strong ties with political and social action, especially the punk fiasco, over there music can mean more than simply being entertainment. It reminds me of this clip where the british pollies are talking about the smiths in parliament, nothing of the sort would happen in australia, they're more likely to tear down the art off the parliament walls. Oh they did that with Bill Henson didn't they?...
*i'm probably being biased.
It's cool to not care, and thus the cool kids music is plagued by things that don't say anything. Much like that sentence.
Hmmm... not that similar after all.
Oh well. At least it makes me feel nauseous...
Isn't that a Kaiser Chiefs song?
na dawg it's cool to care, just these crackers don't know shit about writing good lyrics
I remember seeing these guys open for My Disco once. That was a weird combo.
Two star review for the album from the Guardian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2012/may/17/the-temper-trap-review
That Vine review is awesome.
