Watch: Tame Impala Dive Into New Album ‘Lonerism’

“It’s got lots of synths on it,” drummer Jay Watson said of Tame Impala’s forthcoming second album in a recent interview with M+N.

To whet appetites for the imminent release, which is reportedly called Lonerism, the Pond side project have released a teaser video featuring festival footage, home videos and a whole lot of psychedelic swirls (just in case there was any doubt as to the music they make). There’s also a snippet of a song, a slow dense number with Beatles-y changes and some lyrics, funnily enough, about change.

Lonerism is the follow-up to 2009’s Australian Music Prize-nominated debut Innerspeaker, which topped both the *M+N Critics and Readers polls for that year. In an interview with M+N around the time of its release, frontman Kevin Parker promised a “major departure” from Innerspeaker.

“On this next album, it’s going to open up completely what we can do sonically and songwriting [wise],” he said. “Back when I was doing Innerspeaker, I felt like I should make an album with only guitars, and use no synths, because I felt like it was a compromise to what we do. But I now know that it’s not.”
