– As soft-rock supergroup Montero prepare for the August 16 release of debut album The Loving Gaze via Mistletone, they’ll wrap up a short single launch tour for ‘Passions’ this Friday (June 28) at Melbourne’s The LuWOW. Fronted by artist and music video guru Ben Montero, the band includes his longtime collaborator Gerald Wells on synths, Chapter Music founder Guy Blackman on piano, Cameron Potts (Ninetynine, Baseball) on drums, producer Robert Bravington on bass and Geoffrey O’Connor (The Crayon Fields) on guitar. Supports for the LuWOW gig are The Ancients and in-demand sideman Shags Chamberlain’s own Swim Between the Shags. Tickets are on sale now. Revisit the steamy riches of ‘Passions’ below.

– Following a demanding few months of touring, Mike Noga from The Drones has announced a month-long July residency at Melbourne’s The Post Office Hotel. The London-based Noga returns from a few months on the road with The Drones including an appearance last weekend at Satanalia at Hobart’s Dark Mofo; a headline show at Sydney Opera House; stints at Spain and Portugal's Primavera Festival; and a support slot for Neil Young and Crazy Horse. He’ll be showcasing a selection of songs from a forthcoming album, as well as favourites from his second solo effort The Balladeer Hunter and 2005’s Folk Songs. Noga’s residency will kick off on Thursday, July 4, and run until July 25.
– Back from their North American conquest, Melbourne quartet Yolke are playing a homecoming gig this Saturday (June 29) at The Toff in Town with Trjaeu and Where Were You at Lunch?. It’s Yolke’s first gig since releasing their second EP, Syrup, through Fallopian Tunes. They also just released an appropriately mind-bending video for the single ‘Tough Times’; watch it below. The Toff gig is $10 on the door and $7 concession from 8pm.
– Taking a break from fending off interlopers at the laundromat, as in the recent video for ‘Hey! Don’t!’, Brisbane’s throwback pop sensations Johnny and the Fembots are playing a fundraiser this Saturday (June 29) for the short film Peripheral, the work of QUT film and TV students. It’s at newish venue The Hideaway, with support from The Good Sports, The Kramers and Settling plus cakes and slices supplied by The Sugar Deli. Tickets are $8 + bf in advance or $10 at the door. Supplying “sounds which will soothe your turbulent teen hearts,” Johnny and the Fembots boast members of Go Violets and Jeremy Neale’s backing band.
