First half was pretty tedious, true. The sexual/psychological tension between those two had been the most interesting element for me, and seeing them at ease with each other was dull. But c'mon - second half was great.

Who directed that ep? Was brilliant. Plot believability - whatever, it's TV. The drama played out gorgeously and the slow pace was refreshing.. the sea burial was so eerie, the Brody family post-separation scenes were excellent, as were the scenes dealing with their reactions to the blast. And yep, that scene with Saul surrounded by bodies was actually moving and added some rare gravity.
