Live Review: Dead Can Dance, Sydney
Comment I Made about 4 months ago
I travelled from Brisbane for DCD with my partner. I was a newcomer to the band, my other half was the fan, and I was converted but a little puzzled - fantastic article Kate; that's one piece of music writing that actually helped in my own appreciation/understanding of what I saw. And yes, Gerrard was incredible.
A great argument for more live reviews in M&N.

I'm late to the party here, but then again, I was early when I wrote a piece on the album for this website years before it finally appeared. Did it actually get properly reviewed on release by Mess & Noise? Seems to have been a terrible cock-up somewhere along the line ... It's tragic that such an monumental release (especially one so beautifully presented - no expense was spared) could come out to virtually no exposure/fanfare/acclaim.

I wasn't there, but slagging a band and then insulting the audience's intelligence for liking them is rubbish. Just maybe the audience saw and heard something that went clean over the head of the reviewer.

I seriously advise you Melbourne peeps heading for the SPJ/Salmon Old Bar show on Feb 26 to get there early enough to see Sabrina Lawrie, who runs Brisbane's Beetle Bar.
She is untouchably fucking talented - I'm tipping she'll steal the show. Debut solo album about to drop.
If you're already a convert, she's also playing at the Cherry Bar on the 28th with Spencer.

It’s clearly aiming to be that kind of intangible album you will blare through the car speakers while at driving, put on at a party, or even as background music while trudging through the household chores.
Heaven forbid. I mean, how can anyone expect to do the washing up properly when distracted by bloody music? There oughta be a law...
