Wunderlust
Swammerdam
Independent

I don't know, man. This music scares me. These Melbourne boys have beards and dress as jesters from the Court of Bestiality. Manly guttural noises are heard over pounding surf drums and the odd wash of guitar. 'Charlotte' is an ode to stalking. This is all to the good.

Be Water My Friend
Gravenewworld

Mood music. It's an odd term. Which mood? This was called “noodling” in the ’80s, it was played on guitar and The Durutti Column had it down pat. Now folk have laptops. You'd be surprised at how many Brisbane gigs sound like this. From Perth.

6s & 7s
Choose The Sentinel Blooze
Love Is My Velocity

Tip to aspiring Pro-Tool users; turning the echo chamber up doesn't hide anything. Slowing your songs down doesn't make them more meaningful. It just makes them slower. Silver Mt Zion Orchestra were the worst thing to happen to independent music in the last decade - discuss. From Western Australia.

Teenagersintokyo
Sacrifice
Stomp Entertainment

LCD Soundsystem are massive with readers of Pitchfork right now. Do you think Teenagersintokyo are aware of this? This is like Siouxsie And The Banshees, minus Siouxsie - and the Banshees.

The MoMos
No No No Not Like That
Half A Cow

From Sydney. I bet they're lovely blokes, but Bangs alive! If they're going to be in a rock band, they should learn how to rock. Fact: Bevis Frond is the third worst band name of all time. Fact: Teenage Fanclub have harmonies.

Jinja Safari
Jinja Safari EP
Young Mine/Other Tongues

Apparently, Sydney is silly with bands imitating Vampire Weekend or Animal Collective. On the basis of their name alone, I suspect Jinja Safari fall into the second category.

Amy Meredith
Restless
Sony Music

Can you imagine any of the members of Amy Meredith waking up in the morning, and going, "Wow! I am SO proud to be a member of such an original, kick-ass chart band"? Me neither. Make Temper Trap sound halfway original.

The Silents
Sun A Buzz
Independent

Ah, Tame Impala. So much to answer for. So little to be proud of.
