– Three years ago, Richard In Your Mind released the Summertime EP on the first day of that season. Now they’re releasing another, Mozzarella, on the last day of spring: Friday, November 30. The five-song EP follows last year’s second album SUN. Its title track indeed harkens back to Summertime’s Beck-like itchiness while still happily channelling The Beatles, with digressive threads of electronics, funk and psych to boot. RIYM play a free gig tonight (Nov 15) at the Lansdowne in Sydney, with support from Bearhug and Reckless Vagina. And yes, that's another circle/sticker cover, following Ball Park Music, Tame Impala and Dappled Cities.

– ‘I Don’t Wanna Lose You’ is the swooning new single from Cool Drinks, the youngish project of Melbourne’s Matthew Crib. It’s got a real milky warmth to it, like a close cousin of The Jesus and Mary Chain’s ‘Just Like Honey’, and a lot of low-key heart as well. The song can be obtained digitally for any price or, for a mere two dollars including shipping, as a one-track CD-R numbered and limited to 25 copies. With no gigs on the immediate horizon, it’s worth obtaining the physical artefact.

– Brothers Hand Mirror is the team-up of Oscar Slorach-Thorn (Psuche, Oscar + Martin) & Grant Gronewold (a.k.a. recent Collarbones collaborator HTML Flowers). They’ve just put out the five-song Muddy Now EP as a name-your-price download. It’s textured DIY hip-hop of the Anticon variety: weird, great and quick to get under your skin.

– Hey look, another effortlessly catchy single from Mining Boom: ‘Telecom’ isn’t as lyrically brash as ‘Craigie’, but it’s got the same lazy, lo-fi appeal. The song, named after the bygone state-owned telecommunication network, pairs sprightly keyboards with lyrics about being stuck at work when you’d rather be with your honey. It comes from the band’s second tape, Dining Room II, out in early December. Mining Boom recently wrapped a three-week October residency at the Workers Club in Melbourne.
