– Their debut LP Nothing to Do may have seen Bleeding Knees Club leading choruses like “Teenage girls/You’re my world,” but on the new single ‘Feel’ frontman Alex Wall seems to have matured a bit. Sample lyric: “Now that I’ve given you some time, I appreciate you more/I stop thinking as if a relationship’s a chore.” It’s still intoned with nasal earnestness over crashing bubblegum punk, but it could just be a sign of a more grown-up band. The Gold Coast duo are releasing the song – produced, mixed and mastered by Lindsay Gravina at Birdland in Melbourne – as a standalone single ahead of their Buzzcocks support slot at The Zoo in Brisbane this Saturday (April 20) and a headline tour later in the year.

– “A blinding ray of galloping ‘poptimism’,” ‘Fly Through’ comes from The Nature Strip’s debut album Stars Turned Inside Out, out now through Laughing Outlaw. The Sydney band began with Peter Marley and John Encarnacao, who released three albums as Warmer. In their “brighter, poppier, harder, faster” new outfit, fellow ex-Warmer member Jess Ciampa plays drums and Matt Langley contributes keyboards and guitar live. They’re launching the record Friday, April 26 at the Town Hall Hotel in Newtown with Loose Pills. They’ve also made a thermal-toned video for ‘Fly Through’.

– Shady Lane must have a thing for sea life. First they film their ‘Happy Without Controls’ video at the Sydney Aquarium, and now their new song is called ‘Starfish’. It’s from a split 7” coming out May 27 with the Cardiff/London seven-piece Among Brothers. In a rare move, it’s a joint release between four different indie labels run by a woman. There’s Jen Long’s Kissability in the UK, Jess Abbott’s Cardinal White in the US, Haruna Taira’s HOU in Japan and Julia Wilson’s Rice is Nice (home to Shady Lane, Seja, The Laurels and many more) right here in Australia. After you’re taken in Shady Lane’s blissful-turned-crunchy contribution, give a listen to Among Brothers’ bustling ‘Jollica’.

– The Laurels and Dreamtime aren’t the only Aussie bands playing this year’s Austin Psych Fest, it turns out. Adelaide’s Ride into the Sun are hitting the fest along with dates in Texas, New Orleans and LA. Their new single, ‘Lost at Sea (A Love Song)’, was even produced and mixed by Brett Orrison and Alex Mass from Austin Psych Fest instigators The Black Angels. It’s the first taste of an EP coming out upon the band’s return. They also released their self-titled debut album for the first time last May, despite it being recorded back in 2010. Suggesting 13th Floor Elevators combined with a stilted bit of British Invasion vocal delivery, ‘Lost at Sea (A Love Song)’ is out now through Pilot Records.
