– It’s a testament to Oscar Key Sung’s unique charm (and outsized talent) that he’s been able to steadily boost his solo profile in addition to his buzzed-about work in Brothers Hand Mirror and Oscar + Martin. Fresh off a run at CMJ in New York, he’s dropped the summer single ‘All I Could Do’, a tenderly sung treat complete with squishy momentum and pitch-shifted ephemera. It shows off both his vocal and production prowess at the expense of neither. It also caps off a busy year for him, including a new beat tape and a vocal cameo on Charles Murdoch’s ‘Dekire’. OKS plays next at Club Kids, an all-ages Melbourne Music Week event on Saturday, November 23 at The Residence. It runs from 1 to 4 pm and includes Banoffee, the No Lights No Lycra dancers and Two Bright Lakes DJs.

– Multiple Man have got their whole aesthetic down pat, from freaky retro sci-fi imagery to askew song titles like ‘Built Wrong’. The brotherly Brisbane synth-punk band of Chris and Sean Campion are prolific too, following two tapes this year already with a 7” due on Adelaide label Major Crimes in December. It’ll be up for pre-order in the next couple weeks, but you can absorb the eerie robotic drive and bleary punk vocals of the brand new track ‘Body Double’ right now. And the band are hitting four cities before year’s end, including a local gig tonight and a stop at Maggot Fest this weekend. Sean Campion will also appear on a panel about ‘The Rebirth of Contemporary Independent Electronic Music Culture’ at Sound Summit, and the band will play live at the festival the next day.

Thurs, Oct 31 – Voodoo Lulu, Brisbane, QLD
Fri, Nov 1 – Maggot Fest IV @ Gasometer, Melbourne, VIC
Sun, Nov 3 – Grace Darling, Melbourne, VIC
Sun, Nov 10 – Sound Summit @ The Red Rattler, Sydney, NSW
Fri, Dec 6 – The Metro, Adelaide, SA
Sat, Dec 7 – Animalhaus, Adelaide, SA

– As recently reported, Circular Keys are playing Melbourne, Adelaide and Tasmania in the coming weeks. Now there’s a new song in the lovely dollar download ‘Lite’, recorded, mixed and produced with just a microphone and laptop. It continues with Phillipa O’Shea and Dennis Santiago’s usual watery remove, but feels more R&B in O’Shea’s vocals even as the slow-mo production stays murky and lo-fi. On the live front, the duo have added another local appearance next Friday (Nov 8) at the massive Fallopian Tunes party at Boney, alongside Yolke, Rites Wild, Big Yawn, Horse Macguyver, Document Swell and DJs Andras Fox and Dan Lewis. It’s even got its very own super mix.

Fri, Nov 8 – Boney, Melbourne, VIC
Sat, Nov 9 – Fresh, Launceston, TAS
Sun, Nov 10 – Brisbane Hotel, Hobart, TAS
Mon, Nov 11 – Northcote Social Club, Melbourne, VIC [free]
Thurs, Nov 14 – LongPlay, Melbourne, VIC
Fri, Nov 15 – The Exeter, Adelaide, SA
Sat, Nov 16 – The Metro, Adelaide, SA

– Dane Certificate has been thriving with his DIY emporium Dane Certificate’s Magic Tricks, Gags & Theatre in Brunswick, doing the whole magic thing as well as hosting great gigs like an upcoming Q&A and set by Neil Hamburger. Following renovations, he’s reopening the theatre on Saturday, November 23 with A Gender and some magicians from 6 to 11:30pm. Says Certificate: “People can come in and have a look, drink, popcorn, play an arcade machine and watch magic, music and oddities.” A musician himself, he’s got a beautiful new song in ‘I’m On Your Side’, a piano ballad that he’s planning to adapt for his magic show as a soundtrack. The wistful yet uplifting recorded version features a handful of guests on cello, guitar, bass, trumpet, handclaps, drums, flute and backing vocals. It’s got a bit of Brian Wilson in it, which is always an enormous compliment.
