GUS HUNT matches the minimalism of Unity Floors – his Sydney duo with Henry Gosling – with the song-by-song commentary for their debut album.
‘Nice Fit’
Romance and a pair of pants.
‘Day Release’
Petty theft and romance.
‘Holy Hell’
Avoiding responsibilities/Not doing all the things you said you would do.
‘Once in a While’
Getting caught out by surprise.
‘Petrovs Clouds’
The first part of this song is about Stanislav Petrov, who in 1983 prevented a nuclear war.
‘Just for a Minute’
“In the moment” type of vibe.
‘Georgina’
The song was originally called ‘Mole Patrol’. Our friend Georgina was asking when/if we would write a song about her so we just changed the titles around.
‘Gettin’ On’
Distractions.
‘Want it All’
After we recorded it, Henry said this song reminded him of getting stuck in Rome in the rain. I’ve never been to Rome and it’s not about that at all but I really like that thought.
‘Crash Cars’
Fun fact: we re-recorded this song because on the demo I asked for Nick [Franklin] to put the vocals really low in the mix. Somewhere during the mixing for the LP, I convinced him to put the vocals quite low in the mix again, pretty much defeating the purpose. Ah well, you know what they say.
